I hope everyone had a great weekend. I got to visit with my siblings and my mom on Saturday in Houston, so it was an extra special weekend for me. :)
Language Arts: This week's reading and writing focus is persuasive text. We will explore the language an author uses to persuade his or her readers as well as the point of view from which the author (or a character in a story) demonstrates. We will read a variety of texts including Dear Mrs. LaRue, The Day the Crayons Quit, and several non fiction passages from NewsELA. In addition to the reading focus, we are taking a break from expository writing to write from the perspective of an inanimate object...a school supply item. This goes with The Day the Crayons Quit, and we will use the story as our mentor text for this activity.
Social Studies: We are finally entering in to the time when Spain establishes missions across Texas in order to bring the Native Americans to their way of life. We will learn what made a mission successful or unsuccessful and look at the pros and cons of being a Native American living there. By next week, students will write from the perspective of a Native American or a Catholic missionary in reference to Native Americans joining the missions in Texas.
Please remember to sign Paw sheets each Wednesday night when you empty the Wednesday folder. This is a good way for you to see what is going on in the daily schedule for your child. It is part of your child's homework to ask a parent to sign the sheet.
Also, please be aware that your child should be working on Writing 5-minute TEKS each week. Every Friday, 2 pages are due. This week pgs. 7 and 8 are due.
Thanks! Have a great week!
